The grant entitled “Modelling human brain disorders using iPSCs and brain organoids” aims to create a network among the researchers Dr. Gonzalo Cancino, Dr. Melissa Calegaro and Dr. Leonardo Valdivia at the Center for Integrative Biology at Universidad Mayor in Chile and the UK based researchers Dr. Madeline Lancaster at University of Cambridge and Dr. Greg Findlay at University of Dundee. This network is focused in understanding how the human brain develops and how genes associated to neurodevelopmental disorders regulate human brain cortical development using human iPSCs, brain organoids and phospho-proteomic analysis.
The grant entitled “A multimodel collaborative network to study development and function of the nervous system in health and disease”, we will build on zebrafish and Drosophila work to create a framework for studying nervous system formation and physiology in normal and pathogenic conditions. We will create a scientific bridge between the Center for Integrative Biology in Chile with Dr Felipe Court, Dr Leonardo Valdivia and Dr Joaquin Letelier and the Centro Andaluz de Biología del Desarrollo (CABD) in Spain with Dr Juan Martinez-Morales and Dr Fernando Casares. With this, we will perform experiments aiming to address gene function during eye development, set up techniques in Drosophila and do a round of international seminars together.
