In a significant event for our institution, the Rector Rubén Covarrubias Giordano and the Executive Director of Huawei Chile, Dou Yong, signed an agreement that becomes an exchange of ideas, technical services and artificial intelligence, transcendent topics for the university.

Cloud services, quantum computing and artificial intelligence are some of the areas in which the Universidad Mayor and Huawei Chile can work together as of this year, thanks to the memorandum of understanding that both organizations signed this Wednesday May 22 in dependencies of the rectory.

The meeting was headed by Rector Rubén Covarrubias Giordano and Huawei Chile Executive Director, Dou Yong, who attended the representation accompanied by representatives of Eduardo Frei Ruiz-Tagle, former President of the Republic and current Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary in Mission Special for the Asia-Pacific.

As explained by the authorities, the agreement seeks to cooperate in various areas, including cloud services, high performance computing, quantum computing, artificial intelligence and facial recognition, given the great importance that the U. Mayor gives to the development and use of new technologies and awareness, in addition, of the digital revolution that lives the world today.

"We are very happy with this academic collaboration agreement with a giant company, such as Huawei. It is an agreement that has many projections for our University, in the academic field, research, management, and also the improvement of the quality of life of our students, "said Rector Rubén Covarrubias after the document

The CEO of Huawei Chile, Dou Yong, meanwhile, positively assessed the opportunity to reach this agreement with the U. Mayor and said he hoped that this collaboration would benefit both organizations.

Wang Jingyie, marketing manager of Huawei Cloud Chile; Sun Hao, director of Huawei Cloud Chile; Kamelia Emilova, general manager of the Chamber of Commerce of China, Industry and Tourism (Chicit); and Changqing Yang, cultural advisor to the Embassy of China.

On the side of the U. Mayor, meanwhile, attended by the Comptroller General, Erich Villaseñor, The Vice Chancellor for Development and Management, Mario Herane; the Vice Chancellor for research, Dr. Patricio Manque; and the Director of Global Projects, Fernando Marín.
