Rene Vidal

Associate Professor

Currently, I am leading group of the "Translational Neurobiology Laboratory" at the Center for Integrative Biology (CIB) of Universidad Mayor. I am working in the field of neurodegenerative disease, especially in movement disorder for the past 12 years and I performance several contributions to define and validate new therapeutic target to treat or prevent these pathologies. I am interesting to study cellular and molecular aspect of Huntington Disease (HD) and Parkinson Disease (PD) due to my experience in the regulation of proteostasis network. Specially in the autophagy pathway and its contribution in these diseases’ progression. Moreover, I would also like to reveal the molecular changes in non-neuronal tissues such as blood cells in HD and PD patients and to be able to define more easily the effectiveness of experimental therapies in this pathology.

I participated in administrative task as academic cloister member to the Neurobiology PhD program (Universidad Mayor). My research group has published more than 40 peer review publications, which have been cited more than 2,475 times (H index 31). During my scientific carrier have building a great experience on neurodegeneration field and have an experience in training people, having mentored 9 PhD student and 17 undergraduate students.
